QUALCOMM TRICORDER XPRIZE

LIVE LONG AND PROSPER, FOR REAL

The $10M Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE is dedicated to bringing science fiction to science reality by incentivizing the creation of a real medical tricorder, as inspired by Star Trek. I created a marketing and outreach campaign that sought to spread the word of the competition through the forty million Trekkies around the world. Our campaign suggested that only the tricorder could let you know if you had a human disease, or in fact a truly alien affliction from the series.

make it so

Our concept hit home, and it was not long before we had Star Trek celebs—like George Takei, Robert Piccardo and Nichelle Nichols—and thousands of trekkies posing for their selfie, sharing them online.

To Boldly Go

In the end, over 45,000 fan ads were created, posted and shared on social channels by the newly created Tricorder Federation, which garnered millions of impressions and a ton of love from Trekkies around the world.

resistance is futile

We continued to spread the word about the prize through content partnerships with StarTrek.com, including Treknosis, an ongoing series about the intersection of science-fiction and science reality.
